But here we are now in the 21st Century, and our parliament has hardly changed in the way it works. We have two main parties who sit opposite each other, at a distance of two swords’ lengths plus six inches. And there they wave their order papers and shout at each other. Now what sort of way is that to run a country?
Take any big business, and see how it runs. It has talented people in the boardroom, who work as a team. They don’t always agree, and they have votes, but they still work together, respecting each other’s points of view and skills.
Running the UK is like running a business, but bigger.
The CSSP believes that MP’s should have proper training in how to do their job. Not indoctrination of course, but they should have communication skills, team-working skills, and training in the very many aspects of government.
MP’s should sit beside each other, rather than opposite. And as far as the CSSP goes, it would have no whips. CSSP MP’s would be free to vote with their conscience on each and every issue.
A CSSP government would be open to the idea of having a minister or cabinet member from another party, if he/she had particular skills that could not be provided from within the party.
The CSSP believes in consensual government.
